Orthodontics has come a long way in the last 20 years. Patients, for example can now choose to straighten their teeth with clear aligners, like Invisalign. Other innovations include high tech wires, clear brackets, new adhesives and materials. These advancements have made straightening teeth much easier on the patient and offer more treatment control for the Orthodontist. Few things in Orthodontics though, have made things fun, except maybe choosing your O-Ring colors. The upper and lower Orthodontic wires are held in place on each bracket, by tiny rubber bands, called O-Rings. They come in a rainbow of color options. Many of my patients like to choose colors that represent their favorite sports team, their high school colors or even to match the holiday season (think green and red for the holidays). To my surprise, black has become very popular, since we started offering it a few years ago. And for those that want to make their braces little less noticeable, I often recommend pearl. Pearl closely matches teeth color and unlike white, doesn’t seem to discolor from food and drinks like coffee or tea. So if you happened to be an avid San Jose Sharks fan, we can decorate your mouth with black and teal, so when you smile, you can show your San Jose Shark spirit.
