As the field of stem cell therapy continues to advance, the interest in preserving stem cells for future health problems has grown. Parents now have the option to save their children’s stem cells, extracted from baby and wisdom teeth. In the future, these preserved stem cells could be used to for cell therapy to repair damaged tissues and help heal diseases including eye problems to brain injuries and even multiple sclerosis. Companies now offer the service of “tooth banking" for this purpose. So, while parents may still want the Tooth Fairy to visit, they may ask her to give them the teeth, so they can save stem cells. The question is, will she still give money for teeth, if the parents want the teeth she’s collecting.
